Petestack Climbing/Mountaineering Pages

Since my Hill Running pages made it to my site first, there’s already a brief summary there of my climbing past, overweight years and return to fitness. Now, I’d considered twisting that heading to squeeze in some stuff about more technical climbing and mountaineering, but never quite managed to convince myself that (despite some startling feats by others) the ascents of peaks like Hood and Rainier belonged under ‘hill running’! So I thought I’d better create a new space for this, and here it is (new, July 2007) with a belated account of my 2006 American trip to start filling it out...

Summit of South Brother, 2006

For the record, the first photograph shows me on the summit of The Brothers, Washington, and was taken on 6 July 2006 by my brother Angus. The second, where I’m leading the crux pitch of Secretaries’ Super-Direct (HVS 5a) at Polldubh, Glen Nevis, was taken on 5 October 2008 by top climber Dave MacLeod (something I’d probably have found more scary than the delicate, poorly-protected climbing if I’d known he was watching!) and is reproduced here with his permission. I’ve also uploaded an uncropped 1024x768 version of this pic for a better sense of perspective.
